"D" / Kimberly Washington

After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Political Science (University of Michigan, 2005), Kim joined the Peace Corps where she managed mentoring centers in Mauritania ‘(07-’09) and Togo (09-‘10) for middle-to-high school aged girls that used theatre performances to address issues affecting women and girls in the community. Upon her completion of service in 2010, she moved to the Bay and began working with vulnerable populations in the Middle East and West Africa to improve their access to justice (e.g. establishing pro-bono legal clinics & developing community-led mechanisms to resolve disputes) and to empower communities through the arts (e.g. creating TV/radio/theatre shows that give youth and women a voice). In 2015, Kim left international development to pursue her dream of using the arts to amplify and uplift the voices and images of black queer women in the U.S. She has modeled for local and sustainable designers including Medium Reality, Saint Harridan, Show & Tell and Thuy Custom Clothier, as well as walked the runway in the first Queer Fashion Week held in Oakland last year. Kim is also featured in the short film Swipe (2016) that will screen at the 12th annual Queer Women of Color Film Festival. Kim’s ultimate vision and goal is to create films that reflect the voices and spirit of marginalized people around the world.

"TINA" / Ilana Morris

Ilana Morris is a youth worker and activARTist based in Oakland, CA.  Supporting transition-aged youth towards personal wellness and development by day, Ilana is most known for her performances in the East Bay underground queer cabaret and burlesque scenes as IL Nocturnal.  She brings a unique and politicized expression of sex positivity that explores the roles and responsibilities of white queers in the movement for racial and economic justice. She is honored to be a part of the SEEDS cast and hopes to inspire our community to pay humble attention to privilege as part of the path to building personal investment in the collective struggle for total liberation.
